The people behind this work
Our board and advisory council bring together clinical practice, community organizing, county government, and lived experience. Most of us came to this work through something personal.
Our Mission
We are dedicated to improving access to and the quality of mental health care in Michigan. Our collective goal is to ensure that every person receives timely, compassionate, and medically appropriate treatment.
Advocacy for Equity
We advocate for a fully resourced, fair continuum of mental health services, ensuring that treatment and funding are equitable across all communities.
Continuum of Care
We work to ensure a seamless transition from crisis stabilization into outpatient recovery, providing the support needed for long-term healing.
Whole-Person Healing
Our mission includes holistic and complementary therapies, ensuring that care is delivered on the same terms as any other medical condition.
Our Advocacy Work

We gather data on what care exists in our region and what does not, and we make that picture public.

We bring together hospitals, community mental health agencies, county officials, courts, law enforcement, providers, and families around a shared plan.

We carry the region's case to the state legislators and funders whose decisions shape what gets built here.

We keep the conversation going when attention moves on to ensure the gap is never allowed to return.
What we do not do
The Alliance for Mental Health Care Transformation is not a treatment provider. We are not a crisis line. If you or someone you are with needs help right now, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
What We Believe
Mental illness is a medical condition, not a character flaw. We believe that care for it should be funded and delivered on the same terms as care for any other illness.
People in Northern Michigan deserve the same quality of care available anywhere else in this state. We advocate for a fully resourced, fair continuum of mental health services.
We believe in a full continuum of care that includes crisis stabilization, inpatient and residential treatment, and outpatient recovery support with community support.
We support innovative, effective treatment models and whole-person healing that includes holistic and complementary therapies where they fit.
